One year @ ICCR

January 2, 2019

Today 2nd January 2019; marks completion of  my first year at ICCR as President. I am taking this opportunity to share with you all a summary of New Initiatives at the ICCR during the last one year. Thanks to the support and cooperation of Hon.ble EAM Smt Sushma Swaraj ji and also the Ministry as well as administration of the ICCR, most of these initiatives are now giving desired results and making an impact on adding to India’s enormous Soft Power Potential.

A. Draft of a New Vision and Mission Document for ICCR has been prepared and wide ranging discussions are going on on the same.

B. A Committee has been set up to prepare a new Draft of the 50 year old Constitution of ICCR.  

C. A new annual feature was added as a part of celebration of World Culture Day on May 21, every year in the form of instituting a Deendayal Upadhyay Memorial International Oration on India’s Soft Power potential.

D. After so many years, Advisory Panels were set up for ICCR Regional Centres at various places all over India.  

E. Systemic Reforms are being introduced in the  selection of artistes for empanelment while ensuring greater regional representation.

F. Democracy being an inseparable part of Indian Culture, a series of Delivering Democracy Seminars are being conducted at key opinion-making centres of the world.  

G. As proposed by the ICCR, Niti Ayog organised brain storming sessions on Centrality of Cultural Relationship for greater vibrancy of Diplomatic, Economic and Strategic Relations of India across various nations of the world.

H. As part of International Yoga Day, the First International Conference on Yog Studies was held at New York on 20-21 June 2018 and thereafter an International Association of Yoga Studies was established.

I. For the first time, on the occasion of Rakhi Purnima, Rakhis made of Bamboo and prepared by  tribal artisans from Melghat, were distributed to foreign associates of ICCR at various centres abroad.

J. An idea of every country coming out with a three-year plan of India’s Cultural Relationship Enhancement with respective countries was mooted to have a more structured, result oriented programmes and projects undertaken.

K. For the first time a structured Consultation Meeting with all the Joint Secretaries as Territorial Heads of the EAM was held to have greater commonality of approach in setting up the agenda of the ICCR.
